Poland Detains 76 in Nationwide School Security Sweep

(MENAFN) Polish police have detained 76 people and checked nearly 50,000 schools and other educational facilities across the country in the wake of two knife attacks at schools northeast of Warsaw, authorities said.

“Nearly 50,000 inspected facilities and 76 people detained across the country. Police operations are ongoing throughout Poland, aimed at ensuring the safety of children, youth, and all staff at educational institutions,” police said on US social media platform X.

Officers are also investigating 231 suspected criminal cases.

Two attacks, two days. The nationwide operation followed separate knife assaults on consecutive days in northeastern Poland, a public broadcaster reported. On Thursday, a 15-year-old former student killed a school janitor and wounded the principal and a teacher at a primary school northeast of the capital, according to the broadcaster. The day before, a 19-year-old armed with a knife and carrying a homemade explosive attacked nine people at a vocational school, also northeast of Warsaw, the broadcaster said.
